COLLECTION SPOTLIGHT: Balenciaga ART

The Balenciaga Artist Collaborations You Should Never Miss
Balenciaga’s limited-edition Men Art collection features collaborations with renowned artists from around the world, showcasing their unique interpretations of classic MEN Art pieces. First launched in 2017, the MEN Art project has now launched five collections.
We’ve curated some of the most collectible pieces. Browse the curated list now—they’ll be available soon.
Hong Hao: Balenciaga Black with Colored Satin
For the second edition of the Balenciaga Art collection, Beijing-based artist Hong Hao brings his signature irony and unique perspective to his work. His work challenges viewers to think beyond convention and tradition. His most notable works include an atlas titled The Bible: maps that were originally based on facts but thoughtfully reimagined through cultural, political and satirical lenses.
For his Balenciaga collection, Hao Liang drew inspiration from his My Objects series, working with a series of staggered buttons and beads. Through ordered chaos, he transforms ordinary, overlooked objects into masterpieces of beauty.
MARGARET HUMMEL: IVORY 3D PRINTED BALENCIAGA THERMOPLASTIC T-SHIRT
Margaret Hummel has designed the third edition of “Lady Art Apparel”, bringing her unique artistic vision to a classic yet recognizable silhouette. Hummel is from Cholet, France and London, England. Hummel studied at the Royal College of Art in London. She is deeply influenced by history (especially prehistory), biology, and conspiracy theories. She is known for her rational interpretation of prehistoric biology and the concept of parallel life, which she presents in the form of sculptures.
Hummel describes her Balenciaga designs as looking like they are carved from stone, but at the same time as if they are alive. She achieves this effect through 3D printing technology. Not only is this garment practical, it is also perfect for display in a museum.
SPENCER SWEENEY: BLACK AND COLORFUL EMBROIDERED BALENCIAGA MEDIUM
The inaugural event at Men Art features New York multimedia artist Spencer Sweeney. Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Sweeney studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and moved to New York after graduation, where he worked as a DJ to learn about nightlife. His work is mostly experimental, ranging from drawings to immersive environments.
Sweeney’s work is characterized by its raw materiality, just as we interpret Balenciaga. In his Balenciaga clothing, we can also see traces of Sweeney’s main influences such as jazz, pop culture, art and history.
